Ballister is everything I want in a canonically gay character. Pathetic. Silly. Accidental adoptive father. Traumatized. Has a boyfriend who chopped his arm off. Wet cat energy. He’s got it all.
what’s fucked up is the well was still there
it’s been 1000 years, a whole technologically advanced kingdom built up around it - the story so mythologised and exaggerated that the well itself only has significance to Nimona at this point, yet as dilapidated as it was, it hadn’t been covered up or replaced, just left to rot at the heart of it all
in terms of symbolism, in that moment to Nimona it represents that in 1000 years nothing has changed
One interesting thing about the movie…
In both comic and movie, Nimona’s very first origin is left ambiguous. We don’t know how she came into this world.
But in the comic, it is heavily implied she was a little girl before she started shapeshifting into other animals. That doesn’t go unquestioned; Nimona’s parents insist this is a monster that took the place of their “real” child, but to Nimona, a little girl is the first thing she can ever remember being.
Not so in the movie. In the movie, Nimona clearly shapeshifts into a little girl when she meets Gloreth. It isn’t the first shape she had, it was a shape she chose.
And either way, in the end, it doesn’t matter. Who is Nimona? Is she a little girl? Has she always been a little girl? Who cares? She’s Nimona.
okay insane actually. ambrosius could have aimed for the actual weapon that was being fired. or the wrist. but no. he went for the bicep up to the shoulder. he took the entire arm. overreaction overcorrection. its how they were trained you see. even a whiff of a problem and you destroy the whole thing. you turn a weapon at your own people just to make sure you kill the monster. ough. the themes. the parallels.
anyway yeah nimona is absolutely great so have this meme as my final review and recommendation
